Our family descends from George and he spelled it Leisonfeld.  Descendants of his sister, Elizabeth Schellinger, say the correct spelling is Leasonfeld. The name varies in census, military records and cemetery stones.  Lisenfeld, Liesienfelt, Leizenfelt, Leisonfelt, Linsenfeld, Gleasonfeld, Leasonfeld, Leasonfelt to name just a few.


Peter George LEISONFELD, born Jan.1847, Heilweiler, Prussen, (Hessen), Germany, immigrated to US when he was about 8 years old.  He married Oct. 7 1869, St. Johannis Church, Syracuse, NY, Amelia Hilgert, daughter of Wendell John Hilgert and Catherine Brown.  She was born Aug. 18, 1848, Palsfeld, Preussen, (Hessen), Germany and died Dec. 28, 1905, Truxton, NY.   At the time of his death, Peter was a member of GAR Post #49, Canastota, Madison Co. NY.  He died McGraw, NY, Nov. 9, 1909, at the home of his daughter, Elizabeth Schellinger. Burial in Truxton Village Cemetery with his wife, daughter Bertha Dart and grandchild, Ruth
Dart. 

Peter enlisted, Syracuse, Onondaga County, NY, Sept. 7, 1864, and served as a private in Co. B. 185th NY Volunteers, discharged Washington, DC on May 30, 1865.  (Pension Application #807650, Certificate #639023)

2.  Katherine G. Leisonfeld
, born July 22, 1873.Married July 3, 1888, Canastota, NY at the home of her parents (#1) to Frank J. Porter,  Married #2, Samuel Proctor, Married #3,Frank James Porter, Nov. 7, 1926, McGraw, NY at the home of her sister, Elizabeth Schellinger.  She is buried Truxton Rural Cemetery, NY. with Samuel Proctor (Proctor), who died July 14, 1901.  Katherine died Feb. 2, 1942 @ 66  years,11days.   Information on tomb stone does not compute with date of birth.

Katherine Proctor (25) is enumerated  with her husband, Samuel Proctor and two daughters, Mable M. Proctor (10) & Grace A. Proctor (9). Samuel was 36 years old, born in England, immigrated to the US about 1867.  He was a naturalized citizen.  They were living on West Fifth Street, Elmira.  Samuel was listed as a hostler, (inn keeper).  He died the following year, buried Truxton Village Cemetery, NY. 

1901, July 15  Cemetery Deed Truxton Cemetery association to Peter Leizenfeldt of Truxton & Katie Proctor of Cortland, purchased Lot 14, Section G.   Samuel Proctor died July 14, 1901, Katherine remarried in 1926 to Frank Porter and is buried with Samuel.  Her father, Peter Leisonfeld & mother, Amelia Hilgert names are on the side of the stone.

1918:  Grace Porter and her husband, Frank Kellogg, died October, Spanish Flu epidemic, as did Walter Lathrop, husband of Mabel (May) Lathrop.

(46) is enumerated with her daughter, May Lathrop (31).  May is a widow, with two children, Robert Lathrop (7), and daughter Laona (?) Lathrop, (5).  They were living on Park Street, Cortland, NY.   May Lathrop worked as a trimmer in a box factory.

A photo of Kate & Frank Porter taken in NY City (sometime after their marriage in 1926) includes Peggy Lathrop. There is also a photo of Walter Lathrop

July 3, 1887: Katie G. Leasonfelt & Frank J. Porter were united in marriage at the home of her parents by Rev. Duncan.
Sept 4, 1887: Miss Katie G. Leasonfelt joined the Canastota Baptist Church.
May 22, 1888, joined.
Nov. 7, 1926: Katherine C. Proctor married Frank T. James Porter at the home of her sister, Mrs. L. Schellinger, Mc Graw, NY. Couple to live in New York City (newspaper clipping). Witness William D. Ayers & Bernice Kellogg of Seneca Falls,NY. 

3.  Henry Leisonfelt, born July 30, 1876, died Mar. 15, 1877, buried Truxton Village Cemetery, NY.  Located second row, far left corner behind Hilgart grandparents.

4.  Bertha Leisonfeld,
born Aug. 1,1879, died Nov. 8, 1933.   (Info in Kate's bible: Bertha M. Leasonfelt & Fred James Peters united in marriage Dec. 5, 1898 at 4-PM by Rev. Babcock, Pastor of Canastota Baptist Church..) She married David Sebastian Dart about 1900. David was born in NY, parents were born in CT.  David was a blacksmith.  Bertha is buried with her young daughter, Ruth A. Dart, Truxton Village Cemetery,
row behind Peter & Amelia Leasonfeld.  David is buried with his first wife.

5.  Elizabeth Leisonfeld,
born April 25,1880, married Lee Schellinger, buried in Truxton Village Cemetery with other Schellinger family members.

6.  George Peter LEISONFELD, son of Peter George Leisonfeldt and Amelia Hilgert, born  Jan. 5, 1890, Canastota, Madison, NY. 

As required by Military Law, George enrolled in the New York State Militia, June 14, 1917.  He was included in the Military Census.  He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Cortland Lodge 1512 (1917-1921) He was a machinist and furniture maker employed by Kroehler Manufacturing Company, Binghamton, Broome, NY.  He was injured on the job Dec. 29, 1921.  His death the following day was as a result of those injuries.
