The name was originally Audley or Audlin. In later years, some branches of the family adopted the form Odlin or Odlyn.

First GenerationJohn AUDLEY was born in 1602 in England. He died December 18, 1685, Boston, MA, and was buried in the First Burying Place. His will, dated March 6, 1685, was proved January 11, 1686. One of the very first inhabitants of Boston, his name was found as No. 139 in the register of the First Church of Boston. January, 1637, he was allotted eighty-four acres at Romney Marsh, which he sold December 24, 1638. He was a cutler or armore. He became a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company in 1638, and was armorer of the company from 1644 to 1673. He married Margaret ----, who predeceased him.
Their children include: John and Hannah, both died young, Elisha, John, Hannah, Peter and Ann.
2. Hannah AUDLEY was baptised 9 September 1643, Boston, MA, about 8 days old, under the name of Ajudlyn. She married, 1665, Dartmouth, MA, Jonathan Davol, son of William Davol and his wife Elizabeth.
Children of Jonathan Davol and Hannah Audley were: Jonathan, Joseph, Mary, Benjamin, Sarah, Jeremiah, Ann, Hannah, Abigall, Elizabeth, and William.
