Thadeous Deuel was the brother of Harriet Deuel Swayze.  His brother, James M. Deuel, also served but did not return.  There are several letters from Thadious.   Following names are listed in the letters.  Some were soldiers from the area of Dryden, Tompkins County, NY.

Enlisted, Oct. 1, 1861, Etna, for 3 years.

Served as Wagon Master, in charge of Ambulance Corps
Discharged: Petersburg, VA,  Oct. 9, 1864

Medical:
Disabled by Bilious Fever while in the line of duty at Fair Oaks, VA, June 20, 1862.   He was placed on a Hospital Boat at Harrison's Landing about July 4th, 1862 and sent to NY City Hospital where he remained overnight and was ordered home (Dryden, NY).   After 6 weeks or so he returned to a Convalescent Camp near Alexandria, VA. He experienced sun stroke on march from Fredericksburg, VA to Gettysburg, PA, June 1863 and bouts of Rheumatism 1863 & 1864 near Rapidan River, VA and sunstroke July 1864, at Malvern Hill, VA.

She was daughter of Isaac Osmun and Permilla Metcalf.

Eveline wrote several letters to her dear friend Harriet.  She signed the letters
Eveline Ozmun.  We believe her to be the same Eveline Osmun who married
Harriet's brother, Thadious.

3. Eva Deuel, born Jan. 18,1877, Dryden, NY. She died Dec. 17, 1966 at the Goldsmith Nursing Home, Jacksonville, Ulysses, Tompkins County, NY. She married Fred J.Smith, son of William H. Smith.  Fred was born Nov. 15, 1873, Ithaca, NY.  He died, Sept 25, 1952, Trumansburg, Ulysses, NY. Both are buried Willow Glen.  There are  two stones in the same area with Eva's parents, one with the name of Eva D. Smith 1877 and next to it is Fred J. Smith  with the dates 1873-1952. It appears Eva's stone was not brought up to date. Fred was buried Sept. 28, 1952.

    Dryden Township, Lot #38, 11 acres unimproved land, value $400.

At the time of her death she was receiving a widows pension mailed to Dryden, NY in the amount of $30.00 per month.
