George Evens and two brothers (that we are aware of ) served in the Civil War.   John and Selah died while in service. His brother, Clinton, who married Mary Deuel, sister of Harriet Deuel, died prior to the war.

Previously married to Frank A. Hall, 1875-1881. (Divorced)
Lived in Waverly, Iowa
All records lost in Cyclone May 1896.
Died: Nov. 1922

Thurlow Evens, born Apr. 28, 1888, died Nov. 1922
Frederick C. Evens, born Oct. 10, 1878 (possibly Step-son)

Service Record:
Enlisted: April 26th, 1861, Hudson, Lenewee Co., MI @ age 21.
Complextion: Light    Eyes:  Blue  Hair: Auburn
Occupation:  Mechanic
Honorably reduced from 1st Sgt. to Sgt. May 1863 
Wounded:  May 5, 1862, Williamsburg. VA while participating in the battle received a gun shot wound to the abdomen.   Sent to Gen Hospital in Hastington. 
Hospitalized: Treated at U.S. General Hospital at Philadelphia, May 1862
Furloughed: May 27-31, 1862, July 27, 1862
Apr. 22, 1863, Wound in right arm.
Transferred to Volunteer Reserve Corps, Camp Holt IN, Oct. 1863 to April 1864.
Also injured in the first battle of Bull Run.
Discharged: April 25, 1864. Louisville, KY

Pension Certificate: No. 220842

Additional Information:
1896: May, house destroyed by cyclone.
1914: Employed as salesman by Diebold Safe & Lock Co. Chicago.  Honorably discharged after 25 years due to old age.
1925:  All brothers and sisters of George Evens were deceased.

Clinton Evens married Mary Deuel
Names of others are not know.

Family Information:
Great Grand Nephew, Lt. Col. Charles E. Bartley, of Chicago, served in the World War in Washington, D.C. and Paris, France from Sept. 30,1918-Sept. 6, 1919.
1925 address: 5045 Drexel Blvd, Chicago, IL  Mary Bartley of same address also signed as witness to a document as well as Laura A. Udell of Phoenix, AZ.
