GENEALOGY

Elijah EVENS, born 1782, Ulster County, NY, died 1849.   He married (Shawangunk, Ulster Co. NY, May 11, 1820) Mary Trumbul.   Mary Trumbul was born 1800, Orange County, NY, per 1865 Census, died 1876.  Children of Elijah Evens and Mary Trumble were Clinton, George, John, and Selah. In a Declaration for Pension dated 1925, George Evens stated all of his brothers and sisters had died.  The names of other children are not known.  Some researchers believe Mary Trumbul to be daughter of Ebenezer Trumbull and Sophia _____.

Three sons served in the Civil War.  George W. Evens served in the 2nd Infantry, Michigan.  He lived in Chicago and died 1926. 

John Evens, Corpl, served in  the 141st NY Infantry, wounded June 19, 1864.
Died at Ackworth, GA from Typhoid fever.   Service records state he was born Bradford Co. PA. 21 Years of age on August 6, 1862.

Selah Evens served in the 86th NY,  Co. F, died Oct. 17, 1862, buried in the Military Asylum Cemetery, Washington, DC. Died from wounds received at Bull Run.
